Please join us for a delightful afternoon as the Crunchy Crafters team guide you to make a simple, mild, organic soap out of olive oil.
This is a hands-on class. See below for the list of items that you will need to bring in order to make you first or nth batch of soap and share some good times with fellow makers. You will go home with 8 bars of soap and instructions for making your next batch.  RSVP by July 24 is required.

The Learning Garden will have a seed swap, garden produce swap, and rose petal sachet making. And of course, some delicious refreshments. Garden tours will be available.

Here's what's in store:

• Earth-based meditation 8:30-9:00am in the tree guild.

• General light maintenance, pruning, and watering.

• Nut-grass and Bermuda grass abatement.

• Harvest veggies & flowers (volunteers may share in harvest).

• Picking and arranging flowers for the lunch tables.

We will be having a brief planning meeting this Sunday 7/21 at 10AM to discuss monthly events, library box, new banners, and our priorities for the next month.

And of course, there's a delicious potluck lunch after the church service. All are welcome!

We’ll wrap up the afternoon with a potluck feast.

July in our So Cal gardens is hot and getting hotter.  It is a tough time to be planting … far better to be PLANNING!  What will you be planting, in coming months, in order to make Autumn 2013 your most abundant season yet? Come join us on July 13 as we kick back with an iced tea and dream about autumn.  The cool season is potentially So Calif’s most productive season, if we plan it properly. 

Soil building is always a consideration (and summertime is a great time to begin those compost piles for autumn planting!).  Knowing what to plant when is very important too.  We’ll talk about where to get Safe Seeds, and we’ll discuss crop rotation (our crop wheels will be available for purchase too).  Bring all your autumn vegetable gardening questions!

In July 2013, join Conscientious Projector for a screening of
A Place at the Table.  Our society has the means to feed everyone in this country. Yet 50 million people in the U.S., including one in every four children, do not know where their next meal is coming from. Conscientious Projector takes a look at the state of hunger in America and its serious economic, social and cultural implications with a screening of A Place at the Table on Thursday, July 11, 7:00 p.m. at The Armory Center for the Arts.

Directors Kristi Jacobson and Lori Silverbush examine the issues via the personal stories of people struggling with food insecurity and facing a national rise in diseases related to inadequate nutrition. Their heartrending accounts are interwoven with insights from experts including sociologist Janet Poppendieck, author Raj Patel, nutrition policy leader Marion Nestle, and activists such as Witness to Hunger’s Mariana Chilton, Bread for the World’s David Beckman, Top Chef’s Tom Colicchio, and actor/founder of the End Hunger Network Jeff Bridges.

David Gist, California organizer for Bread for the World, will facilitate a community discussion following the film. The Armory is located at 145 N. Raymond in Old Pasadena.

Admission is free and the facility is accessible to disabled persons.
