Repair Café Pasadena at La Loma Development Open House

Saturday, January 25, 2014 —
Noon to 3:00 pm

La Loma Development / The Shed
1355 Lincoln Ave, Pasadena
(Corner of Lincoln and Washington)

Mark your calendars for a unique opportunity!  Next Repair Cafe will be hosted by La Loma Development at The Shed!

Marco Barrantes and Michelle Matthews have invited us to set up a buzz of tinkers and tailors and anyone else who might like to offer a repair.

Yes, we will have the Really, Really Free Market and hopefully some harvest to share from the Neighborhood Fruit Harvest group. Bring some food to share. (Rumor has it there may also be tamales.)

They will be hosting simultaneously an open house of the premises, which covers approx 1/4 of a city block, and a tour with representation of their grand vision for the property. The landscape architecture company is known for its permaculture-based gardens including Pasadena’s Arlington Gardens, its conversion of swimming pools to fish and plant environs, and its support for the wilderness area known as Poppy Hill in Northeast LA.

Marco and Michelle are creating a non-profit they are calling Zanja Madre, which will further knit together the community by offering classes in permaculture concepts, including demonstrations of beekeeping, chicken coops, worm bins, “green walls” and “green roofs”; they also hope to offer yoga and a beer garden, and provide a general resource for the community.

The Repair Cafe is a great fit with these permaculture concepts offering the public opportunities to test the waters of the gift economy, Time Banking, and sharing abundance as well as reducing landfill and raising consciousness about reducing consumerism and building community resilience.

To offer repairs or help with triage contact: theresegbrum@yahoo.com. To sample the awesome feeling of abundance in action, just show up!
