Pasadena 100

Pasadena 100:  Advocating that Pasadena Water and Power should provide 100% carbon-free electricity by 2035, as part of the City’s Climate Action Plan.

Change is coming; the City can either proactively manage those changes in order to strengthen and enrich our community, or become trapped in an expensive cycle of crisis-response that will gradually sap the human and financial resources of the City and its residents.
On November 4, 2016 the COP21 Paris accord to combat climate change entered into force. Under this accord 197 nations have agreed to take action to keep the average global temperature rise from pre-industrial times below 2⁰C and to pursue efforts to limit warming to 1.5⁰C. However, 1⁰C warming has already occurred. To stand a fighting chance of satisfying the Paris accord, the world must be carbon neutral in its emissions by about 2050 and have negative emissions thereafter. Failure to accomplish this goal increases the likelihood of catastrophic changes to Earth’s weather systems, leading to flooding, drought, famines and a refugee crisis that will threaten the stability of our globalized, technological civilization.

After California’s Executive Order S-3-05 established statewide GHG emission reduction targets of 80% below 1990 levels by 2050, the California Council on Science and Technology produced a Report (California’s Energy Future: the view to 2050) that provided roadmaps for achieving those reductions. This requires taking full advantage of the low-hanging energy fruit: (1) implement all available energy efficiency measures, (2) electrify energy use as much as possible (ie. electric cars, buses and light rail), and (3) fully decarbonize the electricity supply.

Bring your broken things and get them fixed for FREE at Repair Cafe Pasadena http://www.repair-cafe-pasadena.org/, which is coming to the Pasadena Senior Center, 85 East Holly Street, Pasadena CA 91103. Saturday, January 7, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Button replacements, patches, minor alterations; lamp and toaster repair. Appliances, clothing, electronics, dull tools and knives--Repair Cafe volunteers will try their best to fix them all.

Repair your back! Stephen Yelich has been a massage therapist for 31 years, he employs many styles, and truly loves healing the world one person at time. He will be at Repair Cafe with his massage chair, ready to help.

Need an expert on apple computers? Has your Mac slowed way, way down? Do you click to open an application, but nothing happens? Are your files slowly disappearing? Are you continually getting popup messages that you can’t understand? (“WARNING: Blingenfoff has become inactive. Press Bortle to abort.”) Bring it in and Mike O'Brien will take a look. And bring iPhones and iPads: he'll fix apps, but not shattered screens.

Why not learn to repair your own stuff with skilled volunteers? Tools are available for fixing, or just watch and learn. Join the fun.

Bring something, take something at the Really Really Free Market where everything is 100% off!

Also seed giveaway and garden advice.

When something breaks, keep it out of the landfill and save money on a replacement by bringing it to Repair Café. Come on out and see your neighbors: everyone is welcome. It helps if attendees indicate that they plan to attend.

The volunteers enjoy doing good while spending time together; a warm community has developed. You can volunteer even if it is your first visit to Repair Cafe.

Repair Cafe is a project of Transition Pasadena, an award-winning sustainability group that is part of a world-wide movement to build resilience in everyone’s own hometown. Co-sponsorship by Neighborhood Connections, a public service of the City of Pasadena.
