Arroyo Food Co-op

494 N. Wilson Ave. Pasadena

We had another good weekend building a community around the garden. Thank you to all who showed up. If you would like to be a part of this creative change, come on by. We can talk about what you would like to do, or just shoot the breeze. If you will be digging, bring trowels and/or shovels to dig. A knee pad would be nice too.

P.S. Time dollars for time bank members, as always.

We invite you to join us at the First Annual Just Doing Fun Stuff Holiday Fair! We will have cookie making and baking demonstrations, cookie decorating, a potluck lunch, holiday crafts, music, and more.

We are asking for donations of unwrapped new toys for the Hollywood Sunset Clinic’s Homeless Group Holiday party.

Notes from the Garden
“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.”

Autumn is the time for gratitude, a time to slow one’s pace and savor what has transpired.

We enjoyed good yields that were shared by our neighbors. We worked hard on many projects and rooted friendships as we grew community. We joined in collaboration to “just do stuff” with a wider community. We even found time to sit in quiet meditation.

Now is the time to consider a pause in activity to fully take in what we’ve accomplished together. Now is the time to consider what seeds we may sow in the future.

I am so grateful for all the energies people have brought to the garden. I am so grateful that others are dreaming gardens for other locations. And what a joy that we are all opening to new skills, ideas, and possibilities. Most of all I am so grateful that we have a shared journey that continues to unfold, one slow step at a time.

Arroyo Food Co-op Placemaking

Placemaking & Public Gardens

Picture
On October 27, Transition Pasadena and Arroyo Food Co-op co-sponsored a seed swap as part of the AFC open house.  It was a big success!

We continue to draw interest in the community for placemaking at the Co-op with a public garden space.

The most recent planning session took place on November 6.  Entitled "Let's Get Started!", everyone who attended was encouraged to create on 3x5 index cards their vision of the process of creating the garden. Many ideas were sketched and talked about.  There was also a presentation by designer David Wolf about using the vacant alleyways and byways in Old Pasadena for pedestrian paths and 'incubator' stalls for small business.  The evening was charged with energy and enthusiasm.

Thanks to everyone who continues to inject their creative and visionary gifts into the planning of the public garden, and in particular to Sylvia Holmes for taking the lead on organizing these events.
