Throop Learning Garden | May 25, 2014

5/23/2014

Hello Gardeners!

Thanks to all who helped seed abundance in the garden! Apples and plums are coming in, as well as lots of greens, eggplants, herbs, and peppers.

This week we have new seedlings: a second planting of tomatoes, peppers, heirloom watermelon, and marigolds (for color, and nematode prevention). We also will have bean and pumpkin seeds to plant.

Now is the time to plant, since we will have relatively cool weather for a spell.

We are getting closer to installing compost bins. Thanks to all who have given input! Look for a workshop in the near future.

Join us for a short, earth-based meditation around 9 am. Stay for the potluck lunch at noon.

See you Sunday!

8:30am–10:30am
Throop U.U. Church
300 So. Los Robles Ave., Pasadena

Throop Church has just 100 square feet of Bermuda Grass left!  Let's get ready to tackle that last piece north of the Los Robles driveway with sheet mulching during late May - early June.

Also lots of watering, some weeding here and there, and planning for more trellises in the vegetable garden.

Hope to see you there!

June Repair Cafe

Need a fix?

The Pasadena Humane Society in Old Pasadena at 361 So. Raymond will graciously host a Repair Cafe event on Saturday, June 14 from noon to 3 in an upstairs classroom.  There is underground parking available.

We have many enthusiastic San Gabriel Valley Hackers awaiting your broken beloved appliances and electronics.  The sewing, jewelry and knife repair folks will attend.

There will be a Really, Really Free Table that will focus on pet supplies and hand me downs.  Remainders will be donated to the Humane Society for their new pet owners' start kits.

Come and hang with repair folks, learn a new repair skill, lend a hand, take home a freebie!
Be a part of building the sharing economy!
