Housing values. Budget cuts. High gas prices. We're bound to bounce back soon and then things will be "normal" again. Right?

Wrong, says internationally acclaimed energy and economic analyst Nicole Foss. "We will see a big shakeup of who has what. The people who do well are not necessarily going to be the people who are wealthy now."

Foss views peak oil and the ongoing collapse of global finance as a "perfect storm," which threatens to trigger wealth destruction, social discontent, and global conflict.

Writing under the pen name Stoneleigh, Foss is co-editor of the blog "The Automatic Earth." She integrates finance, energy, environment, psychology, population, and real politik. She is touring the U.S. and will be appearing in the Los Angeles area on two select evenings.

Forgiveness, personal and planetary health

Saturday June 18, 2011, 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM
Presented by the Altadena Healing Art Center

Come and join Ling O'Connor in a conversation on how to heal ourselves and the planet. There is no separation between personal and planetary health. What is good for us is good for the planet and vice verse. Forgiveness is the key to both personal and planetary health. Latest findings in biology, psychology and neuroscience are informing us of the nature of decision making and are allowing us to see how health can be related to forgiveness. Understanding the process can potentially give us more of an input in our decision making. We will have a greater chance to choose forgiveness which leads to personal and planetary health.

Ling O'Connor teaches environmental science at PCC. She is a mother of four children and a member of the Altadena Healing Art Community.

Home, a film by Yann Arthus-Bertrand

Thursday, July 14, 7pm
Presented by Conscientious Projector

It took billions of years to form the living organism that is planet Earth, our unique island home. Renowned aerial photographer and environmentalist Yann Arthus-Bertrand chronicles the story of Earth’s ecosphere--and humanity’s place in it--in his spectacular documentary Home, this month’s Conscientious Projector selection showing on Thursday, July 14, 7:00 p.m. at The Armory Center for the Arts. Arthus-Bertrand takes us on an enthralling flight over 54 countries and 120 locations to illustrate in awe-inspiring visual imagery both the beauty and vulnerability of the life system in which we live. The film’s theme is perhaps best expressed by narratorGlenn Close, “The engine of life is linkage. Everything is linked. Nothing is self-sufficient.” Join us for an experience of filmic art that evokes a dual sense of wonderand urgency.

"A Conversation with Rob Hopkins"

Date: Monday, July 18, 2011 - 8:00am - 9:15am Pacific Time

Rob Hopkins is the originator of the Transition concept and co-founder of the Transition Network. He spent many years teaching permaculture
and cob building, mostly when living in Ireland. Now based in Totnes, he is a member of Transition Town Totnes, works part time for Transition Network, publishes www.transitionculture.org, is author of
the 'Transition Handbook' and generally spends far too much time thinking about Transition stuff. He is also a Trustee of the Soil Association.

Rob is a family man with 4 sons, Rowan, Finn, Cian and Arlo, and is deeply in love with the raised beds he just finished building.
